about

written, performed, and produced by Brad Peterson
Like the Lake District poets, I am inclined to frame seemingly mundane things in a romantic light. When I was nearly done writing, I went back and referenced, and subsequently appropriated, bits of the William Wordsworth poem of the same name. I remind myself that the miraculousness of love isn’t always a shout but may be better expressed as a quiet whisper, daily. And, true love takes less than it gives. Speaking of appropriation, it wasn’t an accident that there are arrangement similarities to works of Tears for Fears. For the bass part I asked myself: “what would Andrew Bird do here”?

lyrics

Astuciously you drew the curtains
While I put the kettle on
The morning sky is dim and blurry
With dew upon the lawn
Behold the Lesser Celandine
Enfold its blossoms for my Valentine
The garden trowel and gumboots are muddy
While I wheelbarrow along
To meditative contemplation
In the shed where I belong
Behold the Lesser Celandine
Enfold its blossoms for my Valentine
Oh from thy fair and shining youth
Age might but take
The things Youth
Took for sake
Lovingly washing the dishes
And take the garbage to the curb
Walking around on my tiptoes
So carefully not to disturb
Behold the Lesser Celandine
Enfold its blossoms for my Valentine
Oh from thy fair and shining youth
Age might but take
The things Youth
Took for sake

Brad Peterson Chicago, Illinois

The word ‘maverick’ gets thrown around a lot; politicians, cowboys, designers and others have all been labeled as such when a soul sets itself apart from the mean in order to find out what is truly possible. Singer/songwriter Brad Peterson exemplifies the ethos of the independent, intrepid musician better than almost anyone. ... more
