about

unbroken (2:56)
written, performed, and produced by Brad Peterson
I often consider the image of Saint Paul's Cathedral in London, which stood unbroken amongst the rubble and ruins after the blitz in 1940. Winston Churchill said: "If you're going through hell, keep going..." This idea is applicable to my own life and playing my drum kit has become a form of therapy -both physically and mentally. ‘Unbroken, was born out of a rhythmic exercise. “A bit worn down…” was just what came out when I hit record to document a melodic-phrasing idea; it stuck. I understand now that this song is about my years of distress and how that cascaded into a complete system failure resulting in a rebirth-of-sorts (to where I am now). Material things and the challenges of being an adult human being seem fairly petty to me now. A fun fact: there is a toy piano and a glockenspiel playing almost identical parts (panned opposite each other).

lyrics

For the time
not long ago
Not long ago
We suffered so
To settle all we owe
There'll come a day
There'll come delight
Rejoice be glad
Everything will be allright
A bit worn down
Yet still unbroken
A bit worn down
Yet still unbroken
A bit worn down
Yet still unbroken
I don’t want to dwell
I don’t want distress
We’re gonna rid ourselves of all we possess
I cannot tell
I cannot guess
Who’s to say what is more
Who’s to say which is less
For the time
not long ago
Not long ago
We suffered so
To settle all we owe
There'll come a day
There'll come delight
Rejoice be glad
Everything will be allright
A bit worn down
Yet still unbroken
A bit worn down
Yet still unbroken

about

Brad Peterson Chicago, Illinois

The word ‘maverick’ gets thrown around a lot; politicians, cowboys, designers and others have all been labeled as such when a soul sets itself apart from the mean in order to find out what is truly possible. Singer/songwriter Brad Peterson exemplifies the ethos of the independent, intrepid musician better than almost anyone. ... more
